The 5th Irish Redhead Convention took place in Crosshaven, Co. Cork, Ireland from August 23-25, 2014.

This weird, whacky and wonderful weekend festival is a celebration of everything to do with red hair, while also raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

What started as a friendly joke between redhead siblings Joleen and Denis Cronin has grown into a community and village wide festival, that attracts hundreds of redheads from across the globe.

Every year they descend upon the quaint seaside village to partake in ginger pride events like Certificates of Genuine Foxiness for all redheads, the carrot tossing championships, freckle counting competitions and a ginger bread man party. Throughout the weekend redhead artists and performers take to the Foxygen stage. Other events include redhead seminars, movies about redheads, a village wide ginger discount scheme and much more.

€5,000 was raised in 2014 for the Irish Cancer Society, bringing the total over €20K raised by five years of redhead festivities. The national charity are funded entirely by voluntary donations and offer support, provide cancer care and help fund research in Ireland. Their free phone helpline is 1800 200 700

Next year’s Irish Redhead Convention is planned for August 21-23, 2015. Don’t miss it and keep up to date on http://www.redheadconvention.ie
